CHRIST THE KING
'Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take for your heritage the kingdom prepared for you
since the foundation of the world.'
Fr Peter Stanton, Castlerigg Director, writes
'Many of you may be among more than 100,000 people who have visited Lakeside House or Castlerigg Manor since the Diocesan Youth Centre opened in Keswick in 1969. Castlerigg has aimed to enable the growth and development of young people, offering them the opportunity to learn more about themselves and their faith. Today, National Youth Sunday, your offerings in the retiring collection will support the work of the National Catholic Agency and Castlerigg. The team at Castlerigg hopes that the money raised will improve the facilities for the young people who visit. The team hopes that you will be able to give generously to improve the facilities and allow the centre to continue its important work. We very much appreciate your support and prayers.'

NEW STEPS The entrance at the South side of the church has been improved with the addition of new steps; we will add a new handrail soon. The new steps are safer and more aesthetically pleasing, with their semi-circular design blending with the brick arches above the door. Initially, the construction seemed to be a simple task but it was postponed twice in recent years due to indecision about a fitting design. We will need to avoid walking on the steps until the cement sets and so entry to the church will be by another door until Monday. We will listen to your views and consider a similar design at the main door.
May we spread the peace and unity of the kingdom,
Patrick McMahon

CELEBRATING THE NEW YEAR!
You will remember that for the past two years, the children enriched our Advent Celebrations through decorating the Jesse Tree. I hope that parents will encourage their children to do the same again this year beginning at Mass on Saturday and Sunday 30 Nov & 1 Dec - the First Sunday of Advent. Ideally, the symbols should be -
A5 size or less; (half A4) on card;
cut to the shape so that they look the same from both sides;
attached to a string for hanging;
shiny paper may enhance the art work, but please no glitter;
Suggested Biblical Symbols - Creation (sun, moon, stars ....) Garden of Eden (snake, fruit - not named but an apple with a bite-mark could be used.) Abraham (knife, torch) Joseph (coat); Jacob (ladder) Tower of Babel, Noah (ark, animals, birds, dove, laurel leaf, rainbow) Moses (burning bush; Commandments on parchment) Amos (shepherd's crook, sheep) David (crown, harp, oil) Joseph (saw, hammer ..) chains, angels. You may have your own ideas. You could write Biblical names - Isaiah, Jeremiah, ...... Advent words - prepare, hope, rejoice.
