‘Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem,
for I have chosen myself a king among his sons.'
Jesse presented his seven sons to Samuel, but Samuel said to Jesse,
'The Lord has not chosen these'.
He then asked Jesse,
'Are these all the sons you have?'
'There is still one left, the youngest; he is out looking after the sheep'.
'Send for him; we will not sit down to eat until he comes'.
Jesse sent for David, a boy of fresh complexion, with fine eyes and pleasant bearing.
At this, Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him.
My head you have anointed with oil; my cup is overflowing.
He who honours his mother is like someone amassing a fortune.
He who sets his mother at ease is showing obedience to the Lord.
Children, with all your hearts, honour your father and your mother.
Never forget that your mother brought you into the world.
Remember that you owe your birth to your parents.
How can you repay them for what they have done
As Jesus went along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth.
He spat on the ground and made a paste with the spittle.
Then he put the paste over the eyes of the blind man.
'Go and wash in the pool of Siloam'
The blind man went off and washed himself,
and came back with his sight restored.
'Lord, I believe.'
Bless our fathers and mothers with the wisdom to teach us the highest ideals;
may we honour and obey them
We pray especially for our mothers and those who stand in the place of mothers;
may we show them that we appreciate the sacrifices they make and the love they give
