Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem,

for I have chosen myself a king among his sons.'

Jesse presented his seven sons to Samuel, but Samuel said to Jesse,

'The Lord has not chosen these'.

Jesse sent for David, a boy of fresh complexion, with fine eyes and pleasant bearing.

At this, Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him

and the spirit of the Lord seized on David and stayed with him from that day on.

My head you have anointed with oil; my cup is overflowing.

The Lord honours the father in his children, and upholds the right of a mother over her sons.

He who honours his mother is like someone amassing a fortune.

He who sets his mother at ease is showing obedience to the Lord.

Children, with all your hearts, honour your father and your mother.

Never forget that your mother brought you into the world.

As Jesus went along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth.

He spat on the ground and made a paste with the spittle.

Then he put the paste over the eyes of the blind man.

'Go and wash in the pool of Siloam'

'Isn't this the man who used to sit and beg?' 'Yes, it is the same one.'

'No, he only looks like him.'

This man cannot be from God; he does not keep the Sabbath.'

‘Do you believe in the Son of Man?'

'Sir, tell me who he is so that I may believe in him.'

'You are looking at him; he is speaking to you.'

       'Lord, I believe.’

We pray especially for our mothers, and those who stand in the place of mothers;

may we show them that we appreciate the sacrifices they make and the love they give.
