Starting the day with a good breakfast! Our Lord is very capable this morning! he catches fish, helps others catch more, lights a fire, grills fish, makes breakfast. The fish were caught in the lake; where did he get the bread? Did his mother bake it in their new home in Capharnaum - just a few miles away? I have walked it and had a swim on the way - like Peter. Was Jesus chuckling knowing what he was going to do? I n 72 books of the bible, this is the only recorded breakfast. What a great morning! It began with an empty net (sounds familiar!). But isn’t every morning great, giving us a fresh opportunity to - forget old failures, pains, hurts and to start again, begin a new life, new job, new career, new project. |
This day, may our love conquer all our problems, help us cope, show us in our best light, help us see colleagues as friends help us understand those who disagree with us and criticise us. Each dawn invites us to be, alive to every experience, notice highlights everywhere - in faces and places, in eyes and smiles. Each day is too precious to be wasted on, being our own worst enemy, quarrels, sulking, (women say that men sulk) hanging onto grudges, prolonging a row and dragging it across the day - (like dirty boots out of the garden unto the carpet.) The Lord invites us each morning to express ourselves stylishly by - word, action, looks, listening, confident to be our own self, like no one else in the world. ready to stand up for ourselves - (if you are bullied or bossed at work) and say, ‘no more, this is my new life!’ Remember, we are loved and appreciated by many who may just glance in our direction. Each morning, we say, ‘It is the Lord.’ Our Lord says, ‘Launch out into the deep.’ We can make this day great, the best day you have ever had - starting with breakfast.

Jesus came and stood among the disciples.
'Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so am I sending you. Receive the Holy Spirit.
Those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven. '
Thomas, who was not with them when Jesus came, said,
'Unless I see the holes the nails made in his hands, and can put my finger into the holes
and put my hand into his side, I refuse to believe.'
Eight days later, the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them.
The doors were closed, but Jesus stood among them.
'Peace be with you.
Then he spoke to Thomas,
'Put your finger into my hands; put your hand into my side. Doubt no longer, but believe.'
Thomas said, 'My Lord and my God.'
Jesus said, 'You believe because you can see me. Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.'
When the Sabbath was over, just as the sun was rising,
Mary of Magdala and Mary, the mother of James and Salome went to the tomb.
'Who will roll away the stone from the entrance to the tomb?'
All at once there was a violent earthquake,
because the angel of the Lord had descended from heaven and rolled away the stone.
'There is no need for alarm. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified!
He is not here; he has risen!
See! Here is the place where they laid him.
You must go and tell his disciples what you have heard and seen.'
The women came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved.
'They have taken the Lord out of the tomb. 'We don't know where they have put him.'
So Peter set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb.
They ran together, but the other disciple, running faster than Peter, reached the tomb first.
They went into the tomb and saw the linen cloths on the ground,
and the cloth that had been over his head.
Till this moment they had failed to understand the teaching of scripture,
that Jesus must rise from the dead.
Later, Jesus came and met the women.
'Greetings!' 'Do not be afraid.
'Go and tell my brothers that they must leave for Galilee; they will see me there.'
Later, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb, weeping.
She saw Jesus, but did not recognise him.
'Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?'
Supposing him to be the gardener, Mary said,
'Sir, if you have taken him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will go and remove him.'
Mary!'
'Master.'
'Go and find the brothers and tell them I have risen.'
Later that day, two disciples were on their way to a village called Emmaus,
seven miles from Jerusalem. Jesus approached, but they did not recognise him.
He explained that the scriptures were about Jesus of Nazareth.
When they came to the inn, they said to him, 'Stay with us; eat with us.'
While he was with them at the table,
he took the bread and said the blessing.
He broke the bread and handed it to them. They recognised him in the breaking of bread.
He disappeared from their sight.
The disciples returned to Jerusalem,
The apostles said to them,
'Yes, it is true, the Lord has risen.'
